Cancel your firearm certificate

If you wish to cancel your firearm certificate either visit your firearms dealer or  notify us immediately in writing, indicating your chosen method of disposal and return your current certificate.

One on / One off variations by a firearms dealer

Firearms Dealers are permitted to vary a firearm certificate by substituting one firearm for another already held, in certain circumstances. For further information on the types of variation which a dealer can carry out please refer to the One on / One off transactions via a firearms dealer section. The fee for this is £15.00 which must be completed electronically prior to the dealer carrying out the transaction. Use form 30/50 and notify us within 72 hours of the transaction.

Firearm Certificate Variation by Chief Constable

All other variations must be authorised by the Chief Constable

We will need to know:

  • Where you got the firearm, such as firearms dealer, other firearm certificate holder, etc.
  • What will happen to the firearm being disposed of.

If you get the new firearm from another firearm certificate holder then send this along with Form 30/1.

You should include:

  • A letter of authority from the seller.
  • The seller’s firearm certificate completed.

There is a £30.00 fee for a variation by the Chief Constable.

You can make a variation to your certificate at the time of re-grant without any additional charge.

Sell or transfer your firearm

If you sell your firearm or transfer it over then send Form 30/4 to us immediately.

Use this form even if this is not the only firearm listed on your certificate.

Change of name and address

Use Form 30/12 to inform us of any change in your name and address within 14 days.

Your license will be withdrawn if you do not provide a valid explanation for any delay outside the stated period.

Replacement certificate

Contact your local police on 101 Non Emergency Number immediately if the certificate is lost, misplaced, defaced, destroyed or stolen.

You must also apply for a duplicate certificate.

Complete Form 30/1 and send it to the address below. The fee is £14.

Updated Certificate

Where the information displayed on your certificate has changed (for example, you have changed address), you will require an updated certificate. The fee for this is £14.00.
