If you have lost property you can contact us on 101 to report it and check if it has been found by someone else.
Before you call us, try to gather as much information about the item(s) as possible:
- The exact make/model of the item or a good description of the item and contents.
- Any distinguishing features, a distinctive scuff on a wallet or a scratch on a phone may be enough to identify the item.
- The serial number of any electronic item.
- Any location where think you may have lost the item.
If you have lost an item containing personal or financial information you need to take steps cancel any cards and protect your personal information. Never write your bank PIN number down or keep it with your bank cards.
If you believe you have lost any property on public transport or in a taxi, you should also contact the company or taxi provider to check their lost property office.
If you have found property, please contact us on 101 to report the find. We will ask you for the details listed above and the exact location where you found the item. We will also ask you if you have taken any steps to find the owner.
You may be asked to retain the property for a short time whilst we try to identify the owner. Certain items may not be retained by the finder e.g. items which are identifiable, suspicious or dangerous. You will be advised by our call taker what the course of action will be.
