Police are appealing for information following a report of burglary and criminal damage in Newcastle on Saturday 30th November.

Sergeant Smyth said: “At approximately 6.30am, we received a report that a number of windows had been smashed on a licensed premises in the Main Street area of the town, causing a significant amount of damage.

“A short time later, just shortly after 7am we received a report that two men had entered a shop on the Castlewellan Road and began to cause damage to the interior. 

“One man then jumped over the counter and stole a quantity of cigarettes before making off on foot.

“The staff were uninjured but shaken by their ordeal.

“We are investigating a possible link between both incidents and I am appealing to anyone with any information or CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 318 30/11/24.”
