Detectives are appealing for information following a report of an assault in a park in the Holywood Road area of east Belfast.

Detective Sergeant Dougherty said: "Police received a report of an assault shortly after 8.45pm yesterday, Sunday 28th August.

"Officers attended and located a male, aged in his 40s, with a number of head injuries, including a cut below his eye, a second cut to the top of his head and a third to the back of his head. He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

"It was reported that a number of perpetrators hit him over the head with an object. We believe at this time the object was a firearm.”

Enquiries are continuing and detectives would urge anyone with any information to call them on 101 quoting reference number 1960 28/08/22.
