Detectives seize £520,000 herbal cannabis on M2 Belfast
Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch have seized £520,000 of herbal cannabis and arrested a 39 year old man following a proactive operation last night, Monday 29 February.
Police stopped a vehicle travelling City bound on the M2 shortly before 10.45pm last night and following a search of the vehicle a large amount of herbal cannabis was seized. The 39 year old man is being questioned at Musgrave Police Station on suspicion of possession of Class B controlled drug and possessing a class B controlled drug with intent to supply.
Commenting on the seizure Detective Inspector Keith Gawley said: “This seizure highlights our continued determination to tackle the scourge of illegal drugs in the local community and I would appeal to anyone who has concerns about illegal drugs to contact police. We will look into any report that we receive as we work with the community to reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs.
"I would appeal to anyone who has any concerns or information about illegal drugs to contact their local Police on the non-emergency number 101. [UPDATE AT 3.25PM ON TUESDAY, 1 MARCH]
In a planned follow up search of premises in Lisburn today, Tuesday, 1 March, Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch have recovered approximately £200,000 of suspected class A controlled drugs, 3 kilos of suspected herbal cannabis and approximately £10,000 of suspected cannabis resin.

Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime have charged a 39 year old man with a number of drugs offences including possessing class A controlled drug with intent to supply, possession of class A controlled drug and being concerned in supply of Class A controlled drug.
He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court tomorrow Wednesday, 2 March.
