Man assaulted with hammer in Kells

Two men have been arrested following an assault in Kells.

A man in his 20s sustained head injuries when he was attacked with a hammer in Glenaan Park at around 7pm yesterday evening, Sunday 12 March.

The victim is not believed to have sustained any life threatening injuries.

The arrested males aged 20 and 24, were detained a short time after the incident. They remain in custody at this time.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the assault or who may have any information relating to it, to get in touch by calling 101. Alternatively information can be given to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A third male, aged 41, was arrested for assault on police and obstructing police. He was subsequently charged with those offences and is expected to appear at Ballymena Magistrates Court on 6 April.

As is usual procedure the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
