Police Service host information events in Derry City for new technology for firearms applications

The Police Service of Northern Ireland in partnership with NI Direct are hosting an of information event with Firearms Certificate Holders to showcase new technology for firearms applications in Derry Central Library on Monday 21st November at 4.00pm and 6.30pm.  Ignite.it will be supporting Police Service in delivering these events.

Prior to the introduction of the online application process which will be introduced in the New Year for initial/re-grant or variation on a firearms certificate, staff from the Firearms and Explosives Branch of the Police Service will be hosting a roadshow in Derry Central Library to highlight the new application process.

Discussing the new process Nichola Murphy, Head of Firearms and Explosives Branch explains: “We have been working with our IT department and NI Direct to develop a robust online application process. The new application will ensure we are more effective and efficient in delivering our services to the public.

“I would encourage anyone who will be applying for an initial grant, re-grant or variation in the future to come to one of the Derry Central Library roadshows, which will provide them with an opportunity to complete an application form online.

“The roadshows will give the public the opportunity to try at first hand the new online technology and also gives us the opportunity to go through the new process step by step with them.”

All attendees will require an email address in order to complete the online application form.  However, if you do not currently have one, we would be happy to assist you in creating one. Laptops and tablets are available at the events to allow the public to complete the application form.

The Police Service will run a dual online and paper application process for six months from the start date of the online system.

The events will be held in the following locations across Northern Ireland:

  • 21 November 2016 – Derry Central Library - 4pm and 6.30pm
  • 22 November 2016 – *Clothworthy House, Antrim 4pm and 6.30pm
  • 24 November 2016 – Dungannon Library - 3.45pm and 6.15pm
  • 29 November 2016 – Omagh Library -  4pm and 6.30pm
  • 1 December 2016 – Lisburn City Library - 4pm and 6.30pm

There will be two events per day at each location. Each event will last approximately one and half hours.

We would advise anyone attending the event to please arrive 15 minutes prior to each session.
