On Thursday 9th June, a 26 year old man from the Derry / Londonderry area was sentenced to 10 years at Coleraine Crown Court.

Joshua Olphert was sentenced for a number of serious sexual offences against children.

He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period  and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.

Detective Sergeant Emerson said: “The offences committed by Joshua Olphert are sickening. No child should ever have to suffer and have their innocence taken away from them in this horrific way.

“While these actions can never be undone, I hope the lengthy sentence provides some degree of comfort and allows the victims and their family to have space to find closure on an awful period in their lives and move forward to more positive times.

“Officers in the Police Service of Northern Ireland remain committed to investigating all reports of sexual offences against children and young people. We will seek to place offenders before the courts so they can be made amenable for their crimes.

“I would continue to encourage anyone who has experienced any form of sexual abuse to contact police on 101, or in an emergency call 999.”
