Detectives investigate fire in Kirkistown Walk, Belfast

Police investigating a fire in the Belvoir area of Belfast this morning are appealing for witnesses.

Officers were alerted to the blaze in Kirkistown Walk shortly before 5.30am.

It’s believed the fire started in wheelie bins close to an oil tank with the flames then spreading to nearby homes and gardens.

One property was completely destroyed and a number of others sustained significant damage.

Detective Inspector Harry Colgan said: “Police, along with fire service personnel, were thankfully able to evacuate residents to safety while the fire was extinguished."
