Appeal after stab attack in Newtownards

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an assault at a property in Newtownards on Saturday 20 January.

Detective Sergeant Joy Fitzgerald said: “Officers were called to an address in the Thomas Street area at around 12.45pm. Upon arrival they found a 19 year old female with stab wounds to her arm, body and neck.

“She was taken to hospital for treatment to these injuries where she is in a critical condition.

“A male who made off from the property was detained by police a short distance away. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is currently helping police with their enquiries.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have information which could help with our investigation, to contact detectives at the Public Protection Unit in Newtownards on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 541 of 20/01/18.”

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime
