Murder of Richard Miskelly Newtownards

Police can confirm that the man who died following an assault on Bangor Road in Newtownards early this morning was 24 year old Richard Miskelly from the Newtownards area.

Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway said: “Police received a report shortly after 5.30am that Richard had been assaulted. He received treatment from Ambulance Service Staff but died at the scene a short time later.

“Two 19 year old males, arrested on suspicion of murder this morning, remain in police custody at this time.

Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway continued: “I would like to thank the local community for their support in this investigation. I would appeal to anyone who has any information that they think could help but hasn’t yet contacted us to get in touch with detectives by calling 101 quoting reference number 391 of 26/02/17 or alternatively information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The Police Service of Northern Ireland is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that will assist the investigation to contact us on the non-emergency number 101.
