Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Criminal Investigation Branch have welcomed the sentencing of 31 year old Damien McMahon at Londonderry Crown Court on Wednesday, 31 March.
He was sentenced to:
6 years imprisonment for Robbery
6 years imprisonment for Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent
12 months imprisonment for Common Assault
12 months imprisonment for Fraud by False Representation
12 months imprisonment for Fraud by False Representation
He will serve a total of 3 years in prison and 3 years on licence.
Detective Inspector Jack said: Damien McMahon followed his male victim to the front door of his home where he demanded money from him. When the victim refused to hand over the money McMahon assaulted him, knocking him to the ground where he kicked him around the head rendering him unconscious.
“When the victim was lying unconscious on the ground McMahon rifled through his pockets and rucksack and again kicked him to the head, before making off with the rucksack.
“I hope this sentencing sends out a clear message to anyone who thinks they can get away with this type of crime. We will work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts so that that victims receive the justice they deserve.
