Detectives in Newry are appealing for information and witnesses following a burglary in the Derrybeg area of the city on Thursday evening, 19th October.

Detective Sergeant Dougherty said: “Police received a report shortly after 9pm of a break in at a house in the Fifth Avenue area.

“A man was inside the house at around 8pm when he heard a noise from outside and the sound of glass breaking.

“The man, aged in his 60s, went downstairs and a pane of glass had been smashed on the kitchen door and it was slightly open.

“He went outside and noticed the garden shed door had been forced open and a spade was taken from it. No one was outside at the time.

“Our investigation is ongoing, and we would appeal to anyone with any information, or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday, 19th October to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1855 19/10/23.”
