
Assistant Chief Constable Anthony McNally is responsible for the Justice Department, encompassing Legacy and Disclosure Branch, Criminal Justice Branch, Contact Management and Custody Policy.
Anthony began his policing career in 2002 as part of the first intake of officers in the newly established Police Service of Northern Ireland. From 2008 to 2013, he was part of the UK-wide High Potential Development Scheme and earned an MSc in Leadership and Management from Warwick University Business School in 2013.
His career has included both uniform and detective roles. In uniform policing, he served as Area Commander for Craigavon from 2011 to 2014 and West Belfast from 2014 to 2016. As a detective, Anthony has held senior positions in both reactive and proactive complex investigations.
In May 2020, he assumed the role of Head of Public Protection, overseeing the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s response to adult safeguarding, domestic abuse, child abuse, offender management and rape and serious sexual offences.
Anthony also led on the creation of the first ever policing Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy and Action Plan, which was launched in September 2022. Additionally, he served as President of the Superintendent’s Association for Northern Ireland.
