Taking of fingerprints for private purposes

Members of the public are often requested to supply fingerprints to support applications for visa or immigration purposes to enter a country or to support an application for employment in a foreign country.

Requests to have fingerprints taken for these purposes can be made by contacting a designated Police Station Enquiry Office to make an appointment to attend to have your fingerprints taken.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to supply the following documentation to support your claim to have your fingerprints taken:

  • A letter from the Police, Government, Embassy or Consulate requesting that fingerprints are taken
  • Photographic ID to confirm your identity

Fingerprints will be taken on a National Fingerprint Form with your name and date of birth recorded on the Fingerprint Form.

Your written consent will need to be recorded in the ‘remarks’ section on the Fingerprint Form:

  • The signee consents to fingerprints being taken for the purpose of “enter reason”

You will be required to sign beside this declaration.

The Fingerprint Form will then be signed by the Officer taking the fingerprints and stamped with the station stamp on the rear of the form.

How much does it cost?

The following fee will be charged for this service (all charges include VAT):

First set £85.80
Each subsequent set £42.90
