Serious and organised crime has an impact at all levels within Northern Ireland, causing significant economic and societal harm. This type of criminality is planned, co-ordinated, targets the most vulnerable and is frequently motivated by financial gain.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland leads on investigations into Serious and Organised Crime, working in partnership with a number of other departments and agencies. The Police Service Serious and Organised Crime Strategy sets out our ambition and approach to tackling Serious and Organised Crime. Within the Police Service, detectives within the Organised Crime Branch lead on pro-active investigations into high harm Organised Crime Gangs (OCG’s). The Organised Crime Branch consist of Organised Crime Units, the Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Unit, the Paramilitary Crime Task Force and the Economic Crime Unit. These Units are based throughout Northern Ireland with the overarching aim to protect individuals, communities and businesses in Northern Ireland from serious and organised crime.
