Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold some information to which your request relates and this is being provided to you.
We do not however hold information in relation to request numbers 3 or 4 below. We have also provided you with links to guidance issued by the Information Commissioner’s Office which we have followed in responding to your request.

Request 1
How many Notices of Intended Prosecution (NIPs) for speeding were issued to drivers in the financial years:
(a) 2022/23 and
(b) 2023/24.
Please provide a breakdown of the number of NIPs issues for each calendar month starting with January 2022 and running until December 2024.

Clarification requested:
Could you confirm if you are seeking data for NIPs issued by the Road Safety Partnership, the PSNI or both?

As of the 1st January 2025 (or the closest convenient date), how many AI-enabled cameras, which can provide evidence to assist in the prosecution of road traffic offences, are currently sited on roads within your area of responsibility?

Answer 2

There are no AI enabled cameras currently sited on roads within our area of responsibility.

Request 3

From these AI-enabled cameras, how many Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) have been distributed? Please break down the data by calendar month from the start of their operation and broken down by the type of offence that was registered? Eg, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, etc.

In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) does not hold information in relation to your requests. Enquiries made in relation to your request failed to locate any records or documents relevant to your request based on the information you have provided.

There are no AI enabled cameras currently sited on roads within our area of responsibility, therefore we hold no records of Notices of Intended Prosecution (NIP) distributed as a result of AI cameras.

Accordingly, we have determined that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does not hold the information to which you seek access.

Please indicate whether you will be launching or increasing the number of AI-enabled cameras on your roads, and when this is expected to be, and how many AI-cameras you expect to install.

In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) does not hold information in relation to your requests. Enquiries made in relation to your request failed to locate any records or documents relevant to your request based on the information you have provided.

We have no records indicating whether the PSNI will be launching AI-enabled road cameras, the expected time scale for installation or how many AI-cameras are expected to be installed.
