Request and Answer: 

Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold information to which your request relates. The decision has been taken to disclose the following.

Request 1

Reported Bicycle Thefts:

The total number of reported bicycle thefts in Northern Ireland for each year from 2021 up to the most recent available data in 2025.

Request 2 

A breakdown of these figures by council area for each corresponding year.

The following table is based on all recorded Theft of a Bicycle offences during the period January 2021 to February 2025. 

Please Note:  Figures for offences recorded from 1st April 2024 are subject to ongoing validation and quality assurance processes until publication in May 2025; annual revisions to previously published financial year figures may also be applied at this time.

Request 3 

Recovery and Return of Stolen Bicycles:

3. The number of stolen bicycles that were recovered and successfully returned to their rightful owners during the same period (2021–2025), with annual figures.

If available, a breakdown of these recovery figures by council area.

The following table is based on all recorded Theft of a Bicycle offences, where property described as Bicycles was classified as both stolen and recovered during the period January 2021 to February 2025.  Please Note:  This is management information based on data extracted from a live system and may be subject to change. It is dependent on the information having been input into the system in such a way as to identify those records that are relevant.
