Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold information to which your request relates. The decision has been taken to disclose the following.

Request 1a – 1c
I would like to request the following data....

A yearly breakdown (PER NI POLICING DISTRICT) of the total number of cars reported as stolen in Northern Ireland during the periods:

a) 1st April 2022 - March 31st 2023

b) 1st April 2023 - March 31st 2024

c) 1st April 2024 - March 31st 2025

Request 2a- 2c
A yearly breakdown (PER NI POLICING DISTRICT) of the total number of thefts from a vehicle reported in Northern Ireland during the periods:

a) 1st April 2022 - March 31st 2023

b) 1st April 2023 - March 31st 2024

c) 1st April 2024 - March 31st 2025

Answers to Requests 1 and 2 
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are unable to provide responses on the basis of the number of cars that have been stolen.  As an alternative we have provided the number of Theft or unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and Aggravated vehicle taking offences.

The following table is based on all recorded offences of Theft or unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle, Aggravated vehicle taking, and Theft from a vehicle, broken down by policing district, for the period April 2022 to March 2025.
