Request
As we continue developing our platform, we’re keen to integrate more detailed crime statistics by postcode. Specifically, we’re looking for raw data that includes

1. Types of crimes reported

2. Frequency and trends over time

3. Geographic breakdown by postcode/local area/streets

Clarification Sought
Could you please provide a data range for your request?

Additionally, you may find the following link to be of use: https://www.police.uk/

Clarification Received
I would like to highlight the data range for the recent 3 years (2022-2025) to understand and analyse the trend of different crimes reported in different areas. It would be very much helpful if I could receive the data format with location in longitude/latitude angles to represent it geographically.

Additionally, I’m also happy to receive the above request in any other format of raw data which is available within the organisation.

Answer
Section 17(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 requires the Police Service of Northern Ireland, when refusing to provide such information (because the information is exempt) to provide the applicant with a notice which:

    (a) states the fact,

    (b) specifies the exemption in question and

    (c) states (if that would not otherwise be apparent) why the exemption applies.

The following exemption has been applied:

Section 21 - Information Reasonably Accessible by Other Means.

The information you have requested is available on Police Data UK website, this website provides latitude, longitude and offence classification information for individual crimes. Information for PSNI is available from 2011, for earlier periods in the data series, data for all forces will need to be downloaded which means the file sizes are very large. For more recent periods it should be possible to select data only for PSNI. Please see link; www.data.police.uk
