Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold information to which your request relates. The decision has been taken to disclose the following.

Over the past 12 years, how many police officers have resigned or had their employment terminated as a result of a criminal conviction?

Answer
During the past 12 years a total of 46 officers resigned or were dismissed as the result of a criminal conviction. This includes officers who resigned of their own accord following conviction. It does not include officers who were dismissed via fast track of special case procedures prior to their conviction.

Of those police officers, how many have reapplied to the PSNI once any ineligibility period has lapsed?

Answer
One.

How many of those police officers were successful in becoming police officers once more?

Answer
None.

How many serving police officers have a conviction for driving whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol?

Answer
There are no currently serving PSNI members with a conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
