Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold information to which your request relates. The decision has been taken to disclose the following.

Can you provide the numbers of new entrants for each of the last three financial years for formal apprenticeships at the PSNI, with the totals provided separately by job title/craft/trade associated with the apprenticeship? [Please note I am not requesting numbers for other forms of training only formal apprenticeships. Please note further I do not want the total number of apprenticeships for each year – only the new entrants for apprenticeships in each of the last three years.]

November 2022 – 8 ICS Apprentices joined – Duty Type Apprentice
November 2024 – 9 ICS Apprentices joined – Duty Type Apprentice.
There were none in 2023

Can you provide the current number of staffing vacancies/shortages at the PSNI for each of the various categories of craft workers, tradespersons or other occupations for which a formal apprenticeship would be appropriate as a career pathway for a trainee worker?
Answer
There are no current vacancies within formal apprenticeship.
