Subject: Police Constable Oath

Request and Answer: 
Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold information to which your request relates. The decision has been taken to disclose the following.

Request 1
Please provide me with a copy of the sworn oath every police constable now takes, from this day 1st September 2025, when becoming a police officer.

Answer 1
“I hereby do solemnly and sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of constable, with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality, upholding fundamental human rights and according equal respect to all individuals and their traditions and beliefs; and that while I continue to hold the said office I will to the best of my skill and knowledge discharge all the duties thereof according to law.”

Request 2 
Please provide me with freedom of information of whether or not all police constables retook their oath after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. And if they did, please provide me with what the oath was.

Answer 2 
Police Officers were not required to retake the declaration after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
