Subject: Road Traffic Collision
Request and Answer:
Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold information to which your request relates. The decision has been taken to disclose the following.
Request Background
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Specifically, I would like to obtain details of all recorded road traffic collisions that have occurred over the past five years along the section of the Castlewellan Road, Hilltown - immediately to the south of 2 Ballycoshone Road, Hilltown, BT34 5XB - shown within the red-hatched area in the attached photograph. This image identifies the precise stretch of road to which this request relates.
I would be grateful if you could provide the following information:
Question 1
The number of recorded road traffic collisions within this section of road from 2020- present.
Question 2
A breakdown of the severity of these incidents (e.g., slight, serious, fatal).
If possible, please supply the information in an electronic format such as Excel or PDF.
Answers 1 and 2
Please find attached PDF in in response to your request.
We have interpreted your request to be 'injury involved' RTC data, which is held and quality assured by the PSNI. PSNI do not hold all information regarding ‘road traffic collisions’ on a central database. While PSNI hold central statistics for ‘injury road traffic’ collisions, data for ‘damage only collisions’ cannot be retrieved without a manual search of the data as this information is held on the database NICHE. It has been proved previously that manual trawl almost always brings the request to over cost. Please note that once part of a FOI request exceeds the cost we are not obliged to respond to the remainder requests.
