Subject: Road Traffic Incidents Involving Motorcyclists
Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold information to which your request relates. The decision has been taken to disclose the following.
Request
How many road traffic incidents involving motorcyclists occurred between January and December 2024 (i) across Northern Ireland and (ii) in the North Down constituency?
Clarification requested:
1. Can you clarify if you would like figures on:
(a) Collisions where a motorcyclist was injured, or
(b) Collisions where a motorcyclist was involved and any individual was injured i.e. this may include pedestrians or others injured by a motorcyclist, and injured motorcyclist collisions.
2. Please note that the latest available data is to 31st October 2024, can you also confirm that the period 1st January 2024 to 31st October 2024 is acceptable? Data to end of December 2024 will not be available until the end of March 2025.
Clarification received:
1.To clarify, my request is referring to collisions where motorcyclists were injured and I am happy to confirm 1st January to 31st October 2024 as the time period.
Answer
For the period 1st January to 31st October 2024, there were:
(i) 245 collisions in Northern Ireland where a motorcyclist was injured. These collisions resulted in 252 motorcyclist injuries.
(ii) 5 collisions in the North Down constituency where a motorcyclist was injured. These collisions resulted in 7 motorcyclist
injuries.
Note: Figures relate to injury involved collisions reported to police. This information is currently provisional and subject to change.
