Request and Answer: Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold information to which your request relates. The decision has been taken to disclose the following.

This request is in relation to the 2025 Sergeant promotion list.
Question 1
Can you please confirm of the top 244 candidates from the promotion list, how many are currently deemed by PSD as "not in an appointable position".
Question 2
Of those deemed as such, please advise how many of those officers have been repositioned from their current role.
Answers 1 and 2
Of the 244 top candidates in the 2024 Sergeant promotion list, information held by PSD, indicated 7 candidates were currently subject to an investigation. The final decision on whether they are appointable is not made by PSD.
Of these officers, one was repositioned from their normal role.
These figures are correct at the time of their being checked by PSD (23/10/2025), and are not necessarily reflective of their ongoing suitability for appointment.
