Question 1
During the 2025 calendar year please could you list all of the investigations into sexual offences (including the offence type or name e.g. indecent assault etc.) taking place on railway stations or rail carriages that had to be closed because a suspect could not be identified.
Question 2
For each of these offences would it also be possible to tell us whether inquiries were made to find out if there was CCTV of the incident?
- If it wasn't available please could you tell us why?
(E.g. no CCTV cameras in the area; camera broken or not recording; footage not available because it had already been overwritten; image not clear enough etc.)
Answer
Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) does not hold information in relation to your requests. Enquiries made in relation to your request failed to locate any records or documents relevant to your request based on the information you have provided.
PSNI has conducted searches based on all recorded sexual offences where the location was either 'Moving Vehicle - Train or Travel' or 'Railway Station', for the 2025 calendar year.
Based upon a review of these occurrences, PSNI can confirm that there are no recorded investigations during the 2025 calendar year, identified through Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR) and location markers as previously outlined, that meet the criteria of:
- Occurring in a railway station or rail carriage; and
- Being closed due to a suspect not being identified.
Please note that the identification of relevant records is reliant upon the manual input of correct offence classifications and location details by investigating officers and/or staff at the time of recording.
Therefore, we have determined that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does not hold the information to which you seek access.
