Your request for information has now been considered. In respect of Section 1(1)(a) of the Act we can confirm that the Police Service of Northern Ireland does hold information to which your request relates. The decision has been taken to disclose the following.
Request Details
I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information. Please may you provide me with:
Request 1
The number of motorists who were caught and penalised for speeding offences from 1st January 2024 through to 31st December 2024.
Answer 1
In 2024 PSNI detected 4,793 speeding offences. This includes detections that resulted in a fixed penalty notice, speed awareness course or referral for prosecution.
Request 2
The car manufacturer of each of the vehicles caught and penalised for speeding offences in this time period.
Please provide the information in the form of an excel spreadsheet, with categories for:
-Date of offence
-Car manufacturer involved
Answer 2
The attached table provides the date and vehicle manufacturer of each speeding detection in 2024 which resulted in a fixed penalty notice or a speed awareness course.
Please note that vehicle manufacturer is not available for those detections which resulted in a referral for prosecution (approx. 16% of detections). Vehicle manufacturer is officer input therefore may include different variations of the same name.
Notes:
The figures do not include speeding offences detected by the NI Road Safety Partnership.
The referred for prosecution figures are provisional and subject to change.
