Today, Thursday 3 July, at Londonderry Crown Court, the Police Service of Northern Ireland has acknowledged the sentence handed down to 45-year-old Stephen McLaughlin from Limavady for domestic abuse crimes.

McLaughlin was sentenced to six years and eight months imprisonment, for charges including; attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, threat to kill, common assault and dangerous driving.

Detective Constable Smyth said: "This was a terrifying attack on the victim which left her requiring staples to the right side of her head and had her suffering significant swelling.

“McLaughlin is a very violent man who threatened his victim’s life with her children present. I commend her bravery in seeing this case through the criminal justice process to get to sentencing today. She pushed through the fear barrier he built around her and fought for justice.
