Police are appealing for information following a report of an attempted theft in south Belfast this morning, Thursday 12th February.

Inspector Moutray said: “At approximately 9.45am, we received a report that two males on electric bikes had attempted to snatch a handbag from a woman in the Dublin Road area of the city.

“The woman was knocked to the ground during the incident and the males made off in the direction of east Belfast.

“After a short pursuit, one of the males, aged 17, was apprehended by officers in the Mersey Street area and arrested on suspicion of theft along with a number of motoring offences.

“He remains in police custody at this time.

“I would urge the victim of this incident, who is yet to come forward, to get in touch with police.

 “I am also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or to anyone with footage that could assist enquiries and identify the second male, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 326 12/02/25.”
