Police are appealing for witnesses and information following two arrests made in Toomebridge at the weekend.
Inspector McCallion said: “Officers were on mobile patrol in the Red Row area at around 7pm on Sunday, 22nd February when they were alerted by two members of the public that a male in the vicinity had a gun.
“The officers subsequently stopped to speak with a group which had gathered outside one of the properties.
“Additional officers, including those from the Armed Response Unit (ARU), also attended the scene and, following enquiries, a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm/imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He was also later arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and remains in police custody at this time.
“A search was also conducted at the property, with a quantity of suspected Class A drugs seized. A second, 37-year-old man, was then arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A controlled drug. He has since been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with information which might assist us to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1263 of 22/02/26.
“You can also submit a report or information online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.”
