Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses following a reported serious assault in Omagh in the early hours of Sunday, 21st December.
Detective Sergeant Johnston said: "Police officers on patrol in the Market Street area of the town came across a man with a number of facial and head injuries at around 1am.
"While he was being spoken to, his condition rapidly deteriorated. Officers carried out CPR on the man, aged in his 30s, before taking him to hospital where, at this time, he is in a critical but stable condition.
"An 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, and remains in custody."
Detective Sergeant Johnston continued: "We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, or who may have CCTV/dash-cam or other video footage which could assist with police enquiries, to contact us.
"We know a number of people attempted to stop the assault, and provided first aid. We would be keen to speak to them, as we progress our investigation. Please contact officers on 101. The relevant reference number is 95 21/12/25."
