Speaking on the Day of Reflection, Saturday 21 June, Chief Constable Jon Boutcher said: “The Day of Reflection is an opportunity to acknowledge the hurt and loss caused by conflict in Northern Ireland. It is a chance to stop and think about those who were taken before their time, those who received life changing physical and psychological injuries, and those family members impacted by the Troubles who live with the consequences every day. I regularly meet families who lost loved ones and who suffered injury. For many of them ongoing trauma and grief is a daily reality. They deserve all the support we can provide them as a society. They are in my thoughts today.
