A security alert in the Waterside Link area of Derry/Londonderry has ended.

Police and Ammunition Technical Officers conducted a search of a suspicious vehicle, which had been parked in the area, but nothing untoward was found.

Any roads that were closed yesterday evening, 1st July, have since re-opened, as is the train station.

Inspector Keith Courtney said: "This alert began at around 4pm yesterday, 1st July. We immediately implemented a public safety operation, with the train station evacuated and a number cordons put in place and roads closed.

“We know this caused significant disruption for the public, given the time of the day, and we thank all those impacted their patience and co-operation as we conducted our enquiries.

"As enquiries continue, we urge anyone who may have been in the area of Waterside Link yesterday, or in recent days, in the vicinity of the train station, and who saw anything unusual or suspicious to contact police."
