Detectives are investigating a robbery at a shop in south Belfast on Monday afternoon, 10th June.

Detective Sergeant Faulkner said: “Police received a report shortly before 4.50pm that at around 4.15pm a man had entered a store in the Ormeau Road area with a large holdall.

“The suspect then walked to the back of the shop and appeared to speak with another customer.

“He then lifted multiple meat items and attempted to hide them on his person. As the man went to leave the shop, he was confronted by a staff member and detained by him.

“A struggle ensued and the suspect shouted at the worker, threatening him with violence.

“A number of items also fell onto the floor – including a Stanley blade. The suspect broke free and pushed past a woman as he fled on foot in the direction of Rugby Road.

“He is described as being of heavy build and was wearing a black jacket, blue shirt, grey jeans and black trainers.

“Our investigation is continuing and we are keen to speak with anyone who was in the shop at the time and witnessed what happened to make contact with us on 101, quoting reference number 1343 10/06/24.

“We would also appeal to anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam or mobile phone footage of the area at the time of the report that we could also review.”
