Police in Downpatrick are appealing for information following the report of an arson.
Detective Sergeant Emerson said: "Around 3:45am on Saturday, 25th October, we received a call that two males had approached a house in the Struell Avenue area of the town, pouring petrol over the front door and a car before making an attempt to set them on fire. They left the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
"A short time later, we received a report that a car was on fire in the Saul Road area, this is believed to be the vehicle the suspects travelled in.
Detective Sergeant Emerson continued: "Luckily, the fire had not spread and was extinguished by the resident of the property relatively quickly. However, there were a number of children and adults asleep in the property at the time this happened and it is very fortunate nobody was injured.
"We are appealing to anyone who may have information about this, who was in the area at the time, or who may have video footage - ring doorbell or other that could be relevant to the investigation, to get in contact with us on 101 quoting reference 204 of 25/10/25."
