Four police officers and staff from the Police Service of Northern Ireland have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2026, receiving awards for their distinguished service, dedication and commitment to policing and public safety.

 

Police staff member Gordon Scott received a British Empire Medal (BEM) while three King’s Police Medals (KPMs) have been awarded to Inspector Jock McToal, Sergeant Elaine McCabe and Sergeant Dwayne Stewart. 

 

BEM - Gordon Scott

Gordon’s career in policing has seen him dedicate more than 53 years to public service.  In his role Gordon’s innovative and meticulous approach has been outstanding.

 

KPM – Inspector Jock McToal

With 21 years’ service, Jock leads the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Ballymena and played a key role on the front line and in communities during widespread disorder in the town in 2025. His tireless work has built trust in local communities across the district.

 

KPM –Sergeant Elaine McCabe

Elaine has served as a police officer for 24 years and has for a number of years performed additional duties as a Family Liaison Officer. Over the years Elaine has provided invaluable help and support to many families during difficult times.

 

KPM – Sergeant Dwayne Stewart

Dwayne has been a police office for over 26 years and is currently part of the Neighbourhood policing team in Derry City and Strabane.   His personal contribution and commitment has helped strengthen community confidence and cohesion.

 

Paying tribute to the recipients, Chief Constable Jon Boutcher said: “I am incredibly proud to see the dedication and passion of our officers and staff member recognised in the King’s Birthday Awards 2026.

“Their steadfast commitment to serving and protecting all of our communities exemplifies the very best of policing.
