A 59-year-old man was today, Monday 15th September, sentenced at Antrim Crown Court for possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances, conversion from imitation firearm into firearm, and exposing a firearm for sale.

Gerard Tennyson, from west Belfast, was given a 30-month sentence, half to be served in custody and half on licence.

Detective Chief Inspector McCallum from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Serious Crime Branch said: “On April 22nd, 2023, police searched the home address of Tennyson, and located an illegally held, converted firearm inside the property.

“As part of a further investigation, an examination of his mobile device was conducted, and police identified his involvement in the conversion and sale of illegally held firearms.”

Detective Chief Inspector McCallum added: “Illegal firearms are strongly associated with crime and violence. We want to reiterate that the illegal possession or use of firearms is unacceptable in any modern society and are committed to apprehending perpetrators.

“Today’s sentencing demonstrates our commitment to keeping people safe from the fear, intimidation and control, illegal firearms can cause.

“Anyone with information or concerns about firearms is encouraged to contact us on 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
