A 37 year old man has been charged with assault on police, attempted criminal damage, criminal damage, disorderly behaviour and resisting police.

He is due to appear at Newry Magistrates Court on Friday 3rd January. As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The charges are in relation to a report of disorderly behaviour at the Mall area of Newry at around 1:50am on Sunday 8th December. As the male was detained due to being aggressive and abusive to police, the male is reported to have spat at an officer during the incident.
