A man has been given a prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to attempted robbery of a supermarket in Lisburn.
Michael Morgan (36), from Lisburn, was also sentenced on possession of offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of class C controlled drug. He appeared before Craigavon Crown Court on Tuesday, 10th March and was sentenced to 38 months imprisonment, serving 19 months in custody and 19 months on licence.
Detective Inspector Keon said: “Our officers launched an investigation after a report that a man matching Morgan’s description was in the Warren Gardens store on 7th March 2025 and had brandished a large knife at staff.
“He had tried to steal money from the cash register before running from the store empty-handed. Following our extensive enquiries, we identified the suspect and he was arrested on the same day.
“This would have been a terrifying encounter for the staff at this local shop and I hope that this sentencing offers reassurance that we will work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts so that the victims receive the justice they deserve.
“Anyone who believes they are a victim of crime, should contact police on the non-emergency number 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
