A 38-year-old man was today, Thursday 28 November, sentenced at Antrim Crown Court for possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

Justin Walsh, from west Yorkshire, was sentenced to 4 ½ years for the offence, which took place last year.

Detective Inspector Sweeney said: “Shortly before 6am on Friday 18th August, police and Border Force colleagues carried out a vehicle stop-and-search operation in the Larne Harbour area.

“During the search of a low loader lorry, a large quantity of suspected Class A drugs was discovered, having been concealed in the vehicle.

“Further examinations of the vehicle concluded that suspected Cocaine was concealed inside a drum-type container which was secured onto the back of it.

“It was further established that the estimated value of the drugs was between £480,000 and £600,000.”

Detective Inspector Sweeney continued: “Today’s sentencing is part of our ongoing commitment to bring those involved in the supply of drugs before the courts.

“Drug dealers seek to make profit at the expense of causing harm and loss to families. They ruin lives, and don’t care about the damage they cause, preying on the most vulnerable members of their communities. We will continue to robustly and proactively pursue those who are intent on damaging our communities by supplying illegal drugs.

“I would appeal to anyone with information regarding the supply of illegal drugs to contact police on 101.”
