Police are appealing for witnesses following a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Old Ballynahinch Road, outside Saintfield.
The collision is reported to have occurred around 5:00pm, it involved a bronze Volkswagen CC and grey Audi A4.
Sergeant Campbell said: "Officers attended alongside colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.
"Five people were taken to hospital - a man, two women and two children. Both women and one child are being treated for injuries which are described as serious.
"We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this, or who may have dashcam footage of the area between 4:45pm and 5:30pm to please get in contact with officers on 101, quoting reference 1021 of 22/11/25."
