This weekend’s sunny bank holiday will bring more visitors to our beaches and scenic spots – with more police deployed in these areas to help keep communities safe.

Officers will be seen patrolling beaches, parks and town centres as the welcome warm weather is expected to draw crowds to the North Coast, North Down and South Down.

Police will focus on tackling issues of concern, including alcohol-related disorder, dangerous driving and disruptive behaviour.

Superintendent Yvonne McManus said: “We want everyone to enjoy the bank holiday safely.

“Previously, areas like Bangor have seen problems with anti-social and violent behaviour and we are doing all we can, with the support of local councils and other stakeholders, to keep these communities safe.

“We have arranged for extra officers to be deployed to provide reassurance, prevent anti-social behaviour and respond quickly when needed.

“It is vital we work together to promote responsible behaviour and support a safe environment for everyone.

“However you spend the bank holiday weekend, please be assured that our officers and staff will be working throughout to keep people safe.”

Anyone who witnesses any anti-social or criminal behaviour is also to contact police on 101 or 999 in an emergency. A non-emergency report to police can also be submitted online at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. Information can also be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
