Security alert in the Ward Park area of Bangor has now ended

A security alert in the Ward Park area of Bangor has now ended.

Police received a report of a suspicious device in the area at approximately 5.15pm on Friday, 26th June.

Officers attended the scene together with Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) who, at approximately 8.40pm, carried out a controlled explosion on what is believed to have been historic munition. The item has been taken away for forensic examination.

Cordons have been lifted and we appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by those affected while officers worked to ensure this public safety operation was carried out.
