Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Terrorism Investigation Unit conducted searches in the Currynierin and Creggan areas of Derry / Londonderry today, Saturday 14th March.

The searches were carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into dissident Republican criminality.

A number of items were seized for further examination, including two suspected firearms - enquiries are on going.

Derry City and Strabane Chief Inspector Craig said: "Firearms are extremely dangerous and present a serious risk. Removing them from communities will remain a priority.

"I want to thank the local community for their patience while officers conducted these searches."
