Police have made two arrests after a vehicle was stolen from the Ratcliffe Street area of south Belfast last night, Tuesday, 23rd October. 

Chief Inspector Mark Conway said: "Officers received a report that a brown Range Rover Evoque has been parked in a public car park at around 6.00pm.  When the owner returned at around 10.30pm, he found that the vehicle had been stolen. 

"Separately, a report had been received of a vehicle being driven dangerously in the Stewartstown Road area of the city.  Just after 11.00pm, the vehicle was seen by officers in the Falls Road area.  Following a short pursuit by trained officers from our Interceptor team, the vehicle was stopped. 

"Two men aged in their twenties were arrested at the scene. A 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to the vehicle, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and a number of associated driving offences.  A 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to the vehicle and possession of a class C controlled drug.  Both remain in custody at this time. 

"This was fantastic team work by our officers, and we are grateful that we were able to stop this vehicle before further damage or injury could be caused . 

"Our enquiries are ongoing.  We would appeal to anyone who may have seen this distinctive vehicle in the south or west Belfast areas between 6.00 and 11.00pm last night, to contact police. 

"The number to call is 101, quoting reference 1704 22/10/24."
