Police discovered a very significant quantity of suspected Class B controlled drugs with an estimated street value of around £250,000 in Newry on Monday 7th October.

Inspector Gibson said: “Officers from the Newry, Mourne & Down District Support Team conducted a proactive search operation at a property in the Canal Street area of the city shortly after 4:40pm. A large quantity of suspected cannabis with an estimated street value of around £250,000 was discovered along with other items from the property.

“Two men aged 34 and 28 years old were arrested on suspicion of various drugs related offences. Both men remain in police custody at this time.

“Police are committed to making Northern Ireland a hostile environment for those in our community who are involved in the drugs trade, or anyone tempted to become involved should be under no illusion - we will seek to identify them, arrest them and place them before the courts.

“Police continue to encourage members of the public with concerns about drugs or drug dealing to get in touch and enable us to investigate. The number to call is 101.  Alternatively, information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
