Two men arrested by officers from the Paramilitary Crime Task Force, following an INLA commemoration event in May 2021, have been sentenced at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 2nd May.

Sean Carlin, 45 and Paul Shaw, 50, both from the Belfast area, were both fined for wearing an item of clothing or wearing, carrying or displaying an article in such a way or in such circumstances as to raise reasonable suspicion that they are a member or supporter of a proscribed organisation.

Detective Sergeant Crothers said: “I hope this sentencing will offer reassurance that the Police Service of Northern Ireland remains committed to disrupting the activities of those involved in illegal and intimidating behaviour and we will continue to use all means possible to bring people before the courts.”

The Paramilitary Crime Task Force (PCTF) is a multi-agency task force set up in Northern Ireland to protect communities by tackling all forms of criminality linked to paramilitarism.  The PCTF consists of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the National Crime Agency and HM Revenue & Customs.
