Excess speed was a contributory factor in one in five of all fatal collisions in Northern Ireland in 2024.

In Northern Ireland in 2024 there were:

  • 62 fatal collisions resulting in 69 fatalities - of those 62 collisions, twelve listed excessive speed as a reason in the collision, nine listed excessive speed as the principal reason and three further collisions had excessive speed listed as a contributory reason.
  • 4,753 injury collisions were recorded, resulting in a total of 7,494 casualties.

Based on 2023 collision data, Northern Ireland recorded 37 road deaths per million population, compared with 25 in Great Britain.
