The Presbyterian Church in Ireland Investigation Team

Overview

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has launched a formal investigation into safeguarding concerns relating to the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI).

This investigation is being led by detectives within our Public Protection Branch who have specialist experience in safeguarding, vulnerability, and complex investigations.

Our priority is the safety, protection, and wellbeing of anyone who may have been harmed. We understand that recent developments may cause anxiety or distress, and we want to reassure anyone affected that support is available and that you will be treated with sensitivity, respect, and professionalism.

Why the investigation has been launched

Information and reports provided about safeguarding practices within the Presbyterian Church in Ireland have raised concerns that require detailed and thorough examination.

Given the seriousness and potential impact on individuals and communities, the PSNI has initiated a full criminal investigation to understand what occurred, who may have been harmed, and whether criminal offences have taken place.

This work will be carried out carefully and independently. No conclusions will be drawn until all relevant information has been assessed.
